Meet Zach Zayner: A Passionate Educator and Innovator

I am more than just a candidate—I’m a dedicated educator with a deep commitment to transforming education. With six years of hands-on experience in Title I schools as a reading, math, science and technology teacher in Baltimore City, where I also developed science curriculum and coached VEX Robotics, I have the expertise and vision to elevate the educational experience for every student in Leander ISD. I was also a founding employee of Workbench, an education technology startup that was purchased by Google in 2018.

My platform is built on three key pillars: Transparency, Integrity, and Community. These values guide my approach to making Leander ISD a district where every child can thrive.

Why Zach

Transparency: Open and Honest Communication

  • Community Accountability: I believe in maintaining open lines of communication with the community. I’m committed to ensuring that budget decisions and financial priorities are made with transparency, so you know exactly where your tax dollars are going.
  • Community Engagement: I will keep the community informed with clear explanations of board decisions, votes, and upcoming events, while actively seeking feedback on important issues like new curricula, school performance, and the opening or closing of schools. I want to end the divisiveness of the current LISD School Board to work together with the whole LISD community on solutions.

Integrity: Responsible and Effective Leadership

  • Efficient Resource Allocation: I will advocate for and insist upon the responsible use of district funds, ensuring that every dollar spent is focused on maximizing student learning and support services.
  • Excellent Education for All: I am dedicated to supporting Title I schools by ensuring they have a voice in the conversation and their needs are actually met at the core level and not just as a spread approach. I am fully invested in properly supporting students with learning differences and mental health issues because those students deserve our utmost support.

Community: A Collaborative Approach to Education

  • Engaging Parents: I understand that parents are key partners in their children’s education. I will actively seek to involve parents in the decision-making process, ensuring their voices are heard on issues that impact their children’s education. Regular updates, accessible forums, and open-door policies will be a priority to foster strong parent-school connections.

  • Empowering Students: I believe in giving students a voice in their education. I will work to create opportunities for students to share their perspectives on school policies and programs. By encouraging student involvement in school governance, I aim to cultivate leadership skills and a sense of ownership in their educational journey.

  • Supporting Teachers: Teachers are the backbone of our schools, and I am committed to supporting them every step of the way. I will promote a culture of collaboration, where teachers feel valued and empowered to share innovative teaching practices. I will also ensure that teachers have access to the resources and professional development they need to excel in their roles. In Baltimore City, I was the elected Teacher Representative to the principal and the district for both schools that I worked at and I fought for better pay, better working conditions, and discipline policies that made sense for our students. This resulted in a significant change in pay for our teachers in 2010 through merit based pay increases.
